CEBU, Philippines – The Southwestern University Lady Cobras defended their women’s crown in the 14th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., volleyball tournament last night at the University of San Carlos main gym.
After winning Game 1 of their best-of-three finals series against the University of San Carlos women’s squad, 25-28, 25-20, 28-26 last Saturday, the Lady Cobras swept the series with another dominant victory, 25-21, 26-24, 26, 24.
The female Warriors tried to capitalize with their home-court advantage yesterday, but the Lady Cobras immediately took control of the first set to grab the momentum of the game.
This is the Lady Cobras’ fifth women’s title out of six editions after being losing it two years.
Meanwhile, SWU male squad forces a do-or-die Game-3 against defending champ University of San Jose Recoletos. SWU even the series in a thrilling, 25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 26-28, 15-8 victory in Game 2.
Earlier, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation ended third in both the men and women’s division with its men’s team defeating USC, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, 25-12 while its women’s team prevailed over USJ-R, 25-10, 25-23, 25-22. (FREEMAN)
