Kiwi rules Olango ultra- marathon

CEBU, Philippines – New Zealand national Andrew Whett made a memorable vacation here in the country after dominating the second Olango My Getaway ultramarathon which started and ended in Brgy.Talima in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City. Whett, a teacher in Thailand went for a short vacation in Olango and decided to join the 50-kilometer ultra marathon.

In his first ultra marathon, the 45 year-old Whett went on a slow pace on the first loop covering 25 kilometers but speeded up on the second and final loop to win the race. Whett completed the lung-busting race in five hours, one minute and 20 seconds.

Francis Brent Contanillas finished second with 5:37:25 clocking, while Mark Modesto wound up third with the time of 6:54:35.

Rounding up the top 10 cast were Ian Santos (7:08:24), Argy Bermejo (7:24:24), Neil Caintic(7:24:28), Diosdado Cortejos(7:39:51), Jude Seares (8:11:51), Danilo Larona ( 8:11:53)and Philip Delijencia with 8:14:06.

In the distaff side, Arlen Pepito claimed the top spot in 6:26:15 clocking, followed by Maria Iza Zerrina Mahinay with a time of 8:07:06 as Emmylou Tapulado landed third in 8:14:02. (FREEMAN)
