Valisado submits Soquite

CEBU, Philippines - Rodel ‘Pitbull’ Valisado of Unified MMA wrapped up a day of finishes with a third round win via rear naked choke against Junrey ‘Botong’ Soquite in an MMA event featured in ‘Bakbakan sa Sugbu’, the first combat sports grassroots program of Cebu City Sports Commission, which took place yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Institute located in Barangay San Nicolas, this city.

It was a sweet revenge for Valisado after he lost against Soquite during their first encounter two weeks ago in the undercard of Cebu Extreme Fight League card at the Cebu Coliseum. On that night, Soquite escaped with a unanimous decision win.

But this time, Valisado used his brute force to subdue Soquite who was out grappled by the Mandaue City fighter.

The winning moment came in the third round after Soquite gave his back which Valisado took advantage by sinking a deep rear naked choke to finish the fight with three seconds left.

In the equally-exciting supporting main event, Jed ‘Buhawi’ Alvarez of  Yaw-Yan Simaron MMA survived a knock down before dismantling Jayde ‘Spark’ Dantes of Arcomjukai KBC in the 2:15 mark of the first round.

Dantes connected with a vicious spinning back fist which dropped Alvarez in the canvass, but the latter recovered and took the fight to the ground where he unleashed a flurry of punches from full-mount position to finish off Dantes.

In the other bouts, John Edu ‘Excalibur’ Torbiso of Durex Dragon KBC destroyed Tommy ‘Jackal’ Torno of Arcomjukai, Dexter ‘Rubber Boy’ Bareguard of MFS MMA choked out Bryan ‘Heat’ Otida, Dodong ‘Tiger’ Jagape of Red Dragon MMA Tagbilaran kayoed Romulo ‘Punisher’ Doble, while Nicko ‘Ulopung’ Suerte of Yaw-Yan ArDigma ground and pound his way for the win against Sabino ‘Anaconda’ Camelotes of Arcomjukai KBC.

For his part, CCSC chairman Edward Hayco is overwhelmed by the success of the first offering of ‘Bakbakan sa Sugbu’ and is contemplating to make it a weekly event.

Aside from MMA, ‘Bakbakan sa Sugbu’ also offers free boxing, karatedo and arnis clinic for Cebu City residents. (FREEMAN)
