CEBU, Philippines- A combination of seasoned and upcoming swimmers powered the Cebu Blue Marlins Swim Club to win reigned supreme in the recent Silliman University’s Founder’s Day Swim Meet 2014 in Dumaguete City.
Led by coach Rolando Alvarez, CBM tankers who placed third last year bounced back strong this time winning the overall title after posting 769.5 points over Negros Oriental Blue Dolphin with 699.5 points.
Dapital Swim Club placed third with 423 points, followed by Bohol Dolphins and Ramacho Swim Club at fourth and fifth place with 100 and 69 points, respectively.
Aside from the overall supremacy three of CBM’s bets were also named Most Outstanding swimmers in their respective classes with University of Cebu’s Michael Ichiro Kong dominating the 15-17 class with four golds and a bronze and Romylin Nina Ignacio in the 18-above who hauled four golds and a silver as Bright Academy’s Jehaosh Reign Garrido ruled the 9-10 class with three golds and a silver medal.
Other UC athletes who contributed medals include Emma Alexandrite Duroy,Matthew Angelo Caneda with a bronze, Jan Nino Rosales with a gold, Rafael John Dacaldal with a gold and two silvers, Micah Marie Dela Serna with three silvers and two bronzes and Shane Allyne Pareja with a gold, two silvers and a bronze.
Jehaosh’s sister, Justine Reign Garrido handed over a gold, a silver and three bronzes through the 13-14 class while Elijah Rey Belleza got a gold and a bronze from the 18-and-over class.
In the novice division, Mary Pauline Indaya of Labangon Elementary School delivered three bronzes to CBM, Maria Michaela Recilla of Dominican School also has a gold, a silver and a bronze, Bulacao Elementary School of Talisay’s Bencynth Ghail Luage with three golds, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Catherne Angeli Yu with four golds.
