5th Cebu Open Dancefest set Aug. 9

CEBU, Philippines - The fifth edition of the Cebu Open Dancesport Championships and 'Dancesport sa Sugbu' will take place on August 9 at Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Hundreds of dance athletes from all over the country are expected to see action.

Except in the premiere amateur division, foreigners are allowed to compete in the Cebu Open.

Close to 50 golds are at stake, with 24 events each featured for the standard and latin divisions.

The classification includes the juvenile, juniors, youth and teacher-student, seniors, adult, amateur-closed, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and open, pro-am and the professional 5-dance.

Latin entries will showcase their wares in chachacha, rumba, paso doble, samba and jive, while standard division contenders will be performing slow waltz, tango, Vienesse waltz, foxtrot and quickstep.

For the Danceport sa Sugbu, there will be an elimination for the inter-school and barangayan slated on July 26 at the Cebu City Sports Center. This is done to avoid an oveflow of participants during the competition proper.

The top six performers in each class during the qualifying stage will proceed to the final battle.

For interested parties, the deadline for submission of entries will be on July 4.  — (FREEMAN)
