CEBU, Philippines - Some members of the local media especially the sportswriters will have a rare chance to play alongside their former idols from the Philippine Basketball Association as the PBA Legends from Manila and in Cebu will figure in an exhibition match on June 26 at the Cebu Coliseum. Gametime is set at 5 p.m.
Dubbed as “Shoot for your Dreamsâ€, the goodwill match is open to the public for free as it is part of the social media and advocacy activities by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Programs and Services.
Just recently, the same activity was held in Davao City and it drew a lot of participants that's why it deserved an encore in another area such as here in Cebu.
No less than TESDA Secretary Joel Villanueva, who once played with the University of Sto. Tomas juniors varsity, will see action together with PBA greats in the likes of Alvin Patrimonio, Kenneth Duremdes, Bal David, Jerry Codiñera, Bobby Jose, Rodney Santos and Marlou Aquino.
They will team up with players from the media that include The Freeman sports editor Manny Villaruel, Sun.Star SuperBalita sports editor Jun Migallen, Wilbert Taborada of TV5, Jun Solon of GMA-7, Edgar Escalante of ABS-CBN, Calvin Cordova and Jonas Panerio of Cebu Daily News.
They will go up against the TESDA 7 Specialista graduates who will be joined by Congressmen Samsam Gullas and Bebot Abellanosa, businessman Glenn Soco and some Cebuano ex-PBA cagers in Elmer "Boy" Cabahug, Al Solis, Tata Merced, Gilbert Demape, Felix "Donbel" Belano, and Junthy Valenzuela.
A press conference with Sec. Villanueva and his team will be held at the venue an hour before the scheduled 5 p.m. match.
Also, around 250 TESDA Specialista graduates will formally be honored during the event. (GGM)(FREEMAN)
