Over 500 runners sign up for 2nd Run for the Rivers

CEBU, Philippines - More than 500 runners and fitness buffs have already signed up for the 2nd Cebu Run for the Rivers slated on June 22 at the SM City-Cebu Northwing grounds.

Organized by Environmental Management Bureau in association with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the Cebu Business Month 2014 and celebration, the charity event features 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K categories.

“So far, we already have 500 registered runners but we are expecting it to reach a thousand,” said event organizer Mariel Destacamento.

Proceeds of the charity race will be used for the reforestation and rehabilitation of the riparian zones particularly the Mahiga Creek and Guadalupe River in the hope of arresting soil degradation and improving green cover.

Aside from the delegates from the Philippine navy, airforce, police and non-government organizations, elite and seasoned runners are also invited to take part in the event.

Cash prizes and medals await the top 10 finishers in the 21K and 10K as well as the top five finishers in the 5K category. Specially-designed finisher’s medal will be handed out to all 21K finishers.

Registration fee is pegged at P100 for the 3K (bib only). Those who want to get a singlet will have to pay P250 same with the 5K class, while the entry fee in 10K is set at P350 and P500 for the 21K. (FREEMAN)
