CEBU, Philippines - When the smoke of the battle cleared, two teams emerged as most victorious in The View Invitational 2014 of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City over the weekend.
Chandran Rama and Vic Arnuco bagged the overall lowest gross award while the tandem of tournament chairman Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and Oscar Cornelio took home the overall lowest net plum Sunday night.
Rama and Arnuco combined for a total of ten-over-par 134 points in the four-day, 36-hole event played using the Modified Stableford Scoring System. The pair fired 61 points on the first day and made 73 on the second round.
Go and Cornelio made 77 points on the first round and cruised to a whopping 86 points in their second round for a total of 163 points and a runaway victory.
In Division A, Jufil Sato and Andot Mondares combined for 150 points on rounds of 77 and 73 to claim the title. First runner-up honors went to the tandem of Charlie Gaite and Alexander Reyes with 146 points (77-69) while second runner-up was the pair of Toby Florendo and Bayani Garcia with 143 (69-74).
The View Invitational is the annual member-guest tournament of AVGCC mainly backed by Hei Yang Sports.
The Division B crown went to Lor Alburo and Albert Golez with 150 points on rounds of 75 and 75. First runner-up was the team of Kim Kwang Seok and Wally Lim with 149 (66-83) winning via the countback over Roy Damole and Sherwin Bahani who also made 149 but with rounds of 74 and 75.
Francis Granados and Carlo Dimaala topped Division C with an aggregate of 137 points on rounds of 69 and 68. First runner-up was the team of Joseph Shin and Yun Tae Jung with 134 (65-69) and second runner-up was the duo of Mario King and Ed Franco with 132 (71-61).
The lowest gross plum for the seniors’ division went to the tandem of Rey Sanchez and Major General Romeo Poquiz with 104 points on rounds of 49 and 55. To qualify for this category the total age of the team must not be less than 120 years and no member should be less than 55 years old.
Lowest net honors for the seniors’ class went to Pampio Abarintos and Ricky Ng of AVGCC’s sister club in Sabah, Malaysia with 143 points on rounds of 67 and 76. First runner-up was the team of Razi Razon and Noel Abad with 140 (72-68) beating Rolando Alberto and Boboy Arevalo (73-67) in the countback.
Nelson Yuvallos, however, had the biggest haul in the tournament by scoring an ace on the 159-yard hole No. 2 last Saturday. He won P50,000 bet coupons and P25,000 double-your-money coupons from Pagcor, a Sunriser motorcycle from Norkis Trading, and a reverse osmosis machine from San Gabriel Metal Arts.
It was the 16th edition of the tournament, which has been named such due to the spectacular view that the golf course, which is carved on the hills of southern Cebu City, offers the players. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (FREEMAN)
