CEBU, Philippines - Mar Selma and Vic Radaza seized the lead in The View Invitational 2014 with an opening round of 79 points in the four-day, 36-hole event played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.
Selma, who scored an ace on hole No. 13 during their practice round last Tuesday, fired six-under-par 42 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Radaza added 37 playing in their first round in the afternoon schedule last Thursday.
Charlie Gaite and Alexander Reyes, who took the early lead, were relegated to the second spot with 77 points. Gaite shot 41 while Reyes had 36.
Tied for second is the tandem of tournament chairman Vicente Go and Oscar Cornelio, which also finished with 77. Go made 39 points while Cornelio had 38.
Also submitting sub-par opening rounds were Lor Alburo (36) and Albert Golez (39) with 75 points, Jude Demiar (35) and Miguel Martinez (39) with 74, Chandran Rama (41) and Vic Arnuco (32) with 73, and the pair of Lando Alberto (35) and Boboy Arevalo (38) with 73.
Rounding up the top ten are the teams of Razi Razon (36) and Noel Abad (36) with 72, Mark Douglas Tan (35) and Romeo Aguilon (37) with 72, and Mario Ling (33) and Ed Franco (38) with 71.
There are two shotgun tee-off schedules daily to accommodate the 400 participants of the tournament. The first group tees off at 6 a.m. while the second at 12 noon.
Participants, whose mother clubs are not part of the Unified National Handicapping System (UNHS) must submit club certified handicaps for the period of March to May 2014 prior to teeing off. Failure to submit handicap prior to tee off will mean zero handicap for the tournament.
At stake for a hole-in-one are a brand new Foton pick-up, a lot from Santa Lucia Realty, a golf cart from Club Car, a Sunriser motorcycle from Norkis Trading, a set of Cobra irons from Dynamic Sports, a trip to Singapore from Marist Royal Holidays, first bet coupons from Pagcor, a trip to Korea from Air Busan, an atmospheric water generator from San Gabriel Metal Arts, and a weekend stay at Moevenpick Hotel.
A Skygo motorcycle is also at stake for an eagle on any of the par-4 holes.
In case more than one player will win a hole-in-one or eagle prize, such shall be equally shared.
The awards ceremony of the tournament will be held on Sunday evening at the AVGCC ballroom.
