CEBU, Philippines - Multi-titled Cebuano pedal-pusher Niño Surban made history in Singapore after emerging as the first men's elite champion of the Tampines Mountainbike Cross-Country Race 1 at the Tampines trails the other day.
Surban of Team Roentgen/SpecializedPh faced a tough challenge against 50 other mountainbikers early on, but staged a daring breakaway in the third lap that became his springboard to victory.
The elite category covers a total of six laps with 4.2 kilometers per lap.
Surban finished ahead of German Lars Droste of Team Cannondale-Asia, while Singapore's hometown bet Omar Khaniz came out third.
Surban hopes to sustain his momentum as he competes in two events in Japan next month. (FREEMAN)
