Surban stamps class in S'pore bike race

CEBU, Philippines - Multi-titled Cebuano pedal-pusher Niño Surban added feathers on his cap by winning the top spot of the super-challenge under the 2014 OCBC Cycle Singapore yesterday at the F1 Pit Building.

It was only his tune-up for a more demanding race next week but Surban wanted to make an impression to his manager in Singapore, Jundeb Esquivel, and his sponsors Dan's, Specialized-Philippines, and Brian Jereza proud that is why he poured all his energy left to top the event.

The super-challenge is a 59-kilometer action divided into several loops, with Surban winning the open competition.

Some of Surban's Singapore-based Filipino friends also finished the grueling race including Esquivel, Cebuano Alain Lee and Iligan's Sandy Sy.

It was a sweet redemption of sort for Surban as he came in late during last year's edition of the annual bike tilt.

Surban will return to the Lion City next week for a mountainbike competition, hoping to add more items to his already vast collection of trophies. (FREEMAN)
