CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano super bantamweight prospect Dave ‘The Hunter’ Peñalosa (7-0, 5KOs), will be put to a major test by a foreign opponent, this time against Mexican Alem Robles (6-4, 2KOs) tonight at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.
The Peñalosa-Alem showdown is the supporting main event of the slambang boxing card promoted by Gerry Peñalosa Promotions that will be headlined by Michael Fareñas (37-4, 29KOs) who will be gunning for the vacant WBC Asia Council Continental super featherweight title against Mexican veteran Hector Velasquez (56-20, 38KOs).
A third generation of former world champions, Peñalosa is the son of former two-division titlist Dodie Boy Sr. and nephew of Pinoy ring icon turned boxing promoter Gerry Peñalosa.
Coming off a spectacular third round demolition of Thai Ngaotawan Sithsaithong on July 27 last year, Peñalosa aims for his eight straight against Robles.
“Dave has a bright future in boxing because the kid is so talented but I see this fight as his toughest assignment so far,†said Filipino boxing icon Peñalosa. “I am planning to give him a shot at a regional title later this year but first he must win impressively.â€
Alem will be tough customer to handle for Dave as the Mexican also fought with his older brother, Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr on December last year in Manila. The Mexican warrior went toe-to-toe with Dodie Boy but was stopped in the seventh of their scheduled eight rounder bout. (FREEMAN)
