Sinulog caging fires off Monday

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Mayor's Sinulog Cup 2014 Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tournament will finally unfold on Monday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The four-day joust was originally set January 23-26, but the organizers were forced to reset the event as the players of the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors could not make it on that date as they have to attend to some pressing scholastic concerns.

Aside from the USC Warriors, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will also see action but the highlight of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC)-bankrolled tilt is the showdown of bitter rivals University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the Southwestern University (USC) Cobras.

The Lancers and the Cobras will not only slug it out for prestige but also for the P50,000 grand prize. The losing finalist will take home P30,000, while the third and fourth placers will receive P15,000 and P5,000, respectively.

The contending squads will play in a single round robin format, with the top two teams automatically fighting for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.

Tickets for the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC)-sponsored event are priced at P30 for upperbox, P50 for lower box and P100 for general admission. (FREEMAN)
