Run for the Rivers

As I write this column, I’m also packing my bags for my trip to Iloilo City for the Dinagyang Festival that fires off next Sunday.  As usual, I always  make it a point to hit many birds with one stone. I might also ran in a Dinagyang run Saturday.  It seems I’ll never escape my tag as a “Marathon Man” beacuse even when I’m semi-retired, both in running and organizing, I still get a lot of calls to direct races, one such call came from IPI’s Dennis Wong, who is chair of this year’s Cebu Business Month which is held annually in June.  Last Wednesday, I was in the organizational meeting of the 2nd Run for the Rivers set on June 22 at SM City parking lot.  While last’s year edition was awareness, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and DENR intend to realize the goal to rehabilitate the rivers. Of course Pasig City has its own advocacy, the Pasig River Marathon which takes runners to 11 rivers and esteros in Metro  Manila. The run will again feature the 21K, 10K and 5K distances. Cebu Chamber’s workhorse Ann Cabigas said that due to the clamor  of newbies and kiddies, the race will have a 3K category. Heading the technical officials will be Precing Capangpangan.   I’ll keep you posted with details as soon as we meet the organizing committee again.

Joy to Beijing Marathon

In my last column, I mentioned the newly-crowned Milo Marathon record-holder Mary Joy tabal, has paced herself well in reaching her goal. By ruling the Milo run, she will be representing the country in the Paris Marathon this April as added incentive.  Just last Sunday, Joy made waves anew by winning the 7-Eleven 1000 Run in Aseana City in Paranaque. Well, Joy just got another bonus as part of the prize for being one of the  top three finishers, which  is an all-expense paid trip to the Bejieng Marathon. Good luck Joy, make us proud in the land of the chinky-eyed.

Elvis show in Cebu?

I just got an e-mail from Bobby Torres, events director of the Elvis Presely International Club,  proposing an Elvis show in Cebu which will feature about 10 Elvis impersonators including the Elvis of Japan Douglas Masuda, Eddie Lumbardo  Elvis of Italy and 2010 Grand Champion Elvis of the Philippines Jun Espinosa.  Wow! I’m excited to know that the Elvis International club has considered yours truly as one of their performers when the Philippine–based Elvis impersonators compete in the Elvis Asian Competitions, with the recent one being held in Hong Kong late last year. Of course “Di ta pa pilde, Elvisaya ni Bai!”
