Devastating revenge Servania easily destroys Concepcion in second round

CEBU, Philippines - It was a mission accomplished for Genesis ‘Azucal’ Servania and he did it in a brutal manner.

In a splendid display of brute strength and power, the undefeated ALA Boxing Gym fighter came up with a devastating second round knockout of Panamian Rafael ‘El Torito’ Concepcion to retain his WBO Intercontinental super bantamweight title in the main event of the  ‘Pinoy Pride XXII’ last Saturday night at the Pacific grand ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Aside from keeping his crown and extending his unbeaten steak to 23 now spiked with 9KOs, Servania also scored a sweet revenge of sort against Concepcion, who was responsible for dashing the world titles hopes of his stablemate AJ "Bazooka" Banal five years ago at the Cebu Coliseum.

With vengeance in his mind, Servania pressed the attack button right after the opening bell, peperring Concepcion with a series of body shots and hooks to the head.

The Panamian veteran, however, withstood the onslaught and answered back with strong overhands in the final seconds of the opening session.

In the middle of a heated exchange in the second round, Servania landed a brutal right uppercut to the jaw that separated Concepcion from his senses, sending the Panamian flat on his back at the 2:46 mark of the second round.

Concepcion laid on the mat unconscious for several minutes as the medical team rushed to his aid. The Panamian boxer was later sent to the hospital as part of the precautionary measures.

“I finally avenged my stablemate (Banal) against Concepcion and I am glad that I made him sleep inside the ring,” said Servania.

ALA Promotions founder Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer was very elated with the performance of Concepion.

“I know from the start that Genesis can do it, but I am impressed by the way he timed the uppercut perfectly,” said Aldeguer. “He still has a long way to go and we are looking to send Genesis in a training camp in US to further enhance his skills and power.”

It was a night of  knockouts for the ALA Gym mainstays as WBO International super flyweight champ ‘King’ Arthur Villanueva (24-0, 14KOs) pulled off  a spectacular first round stoppage of  Edgar ‘Chololo’ Martinez (16-8, 10KOs) in the supporting main event.

In the other results, former world title challenger Roli ‘Zuma’ Gasca (21-4, 6KOs) flattened Indonesian Lande Olin (11-5, 7KOs) in the second round, Mark ‘Machete’ Bernaldez (12-0, 7KOs) finished off  Thai Khunkiri Wor Wisaruth (9-6, 5KOs) in the fifth round, while former amateur standout Jessel ‘Magnifico’ Magsayo (4-0, 3KOs) needed just 20 seconds to shackle Hagibis Quiñones.
