CEBU, Philippines - Team Cebu City hauled a total of 26 gold, 17 silver and five bronze medals to dominate the swimming competition of the Batang Pinoy 2013 Visayas qualifying held in Tacloban City.
Thus, the Cebuano tankers earned the right to represent the region in the National Finals of the nationwide developmental sports tournament slated on November 19 to 23 in Bacolod instead of Zamboanga City.
Bohol Province finished second TCC with a 21-12-8 gold-silver-bronze tally, while Leyte Province ended up third with a 7-7-6 medal count.
Among those who shone brightly for TCC were Justine Reign Garrido with four golds and a silver, Micah Marie de la Cerna with two golds and a silver, Madelyn Capacio with four golds and a silver, Karen Mae Indaya with five golds, Michael Ichiro Kong with four golds, Val Andre Tiu with two golds, Shane Allyne Pareja with two silvers and three bronzes, and Tara Kyla Ebon with one gold and a silver.
The rest of the golds hauled by the Rolando Alvarez-mentored TCC came from the relay events.
Aside from the swimmers, TCC also got slots to the national finals in athletics, taekwondo, chess, weightlifting and karatedo. (FREEMAN)
