Theresians make impression in ‘Run with Venus’

CEBU, Philippines -  Emeralde “Mai-Mai” Villo-Hermosilla, who was not known to be very athletic when she was still studying at St.Theresa's College, caught everyone by surprise after topping the 21-kilometer alumni division of the STC High School Batch '89-organized 'Run With Venus' yesterday at the Terraces grounds of Ayala Center-Cebu.

Hermosilla, who is now into triathlon, came out the fastest among her fellow Theresians with the time of two hours, two minutes and 19 minutes, way ahead of closest her pursuer Geraldine Manglapus who clocked in 2:19:19. Shalimar Jean Canales copped the third place honors in 2:22:17.

Amale Mendezona-Jopson also made her presence felt by dominating the 12K alumni category. She crossed the finish line in 59 minutes and 56 seconds. Kaye Malagar finished second in 1:10:10 followed by Tanya Sy with a 1:13:09 clocking.

In the 6K alumni, Lalinka Yu came out on top with the best time of 35 minutes and 44 seconds. Tisha Ong (42:20) and Adele Roa (44:47) occupied the next two sports.

The top three in the 3K alumni were Sunshine Cunanan, Althea Dy and Marivic Tan.

In the 21K open division, Mereeis Ramirez and Isaac Simat stamped their respective classes.

Ramirez bagged the women's crown with the time of 1:37:42 followed by Joeyry Lee (1:39:07) and the little-known Sandra Soliano (1:42:46).

In the men's side, Simat took home the champion's trophy with the time of 1:13:23. Sherwin Managil settled for second place in 1:18:20 as Michael Largo wound up third in 1:18:21.

Lovely Andrin ruled the women's 12K action in 54:07, while her sister Cherry lorded it over in the eomen's 6K open 24:01. Maryjoy Loberanis got the 3K open title with a 10:09 clocking.

Kenyan Abraham Missos went away with the men's 12K title with the time of 40:45, Jory Ycong reigned supreme in the men's 3K in 8:35, while John Darryl Manos topped the men's 6K in 20 minutes. (FREEMAN)
