CEBU, Philippines - Some Cebuano triathletes and mountainbikers made their presence strongly felt in the 2nd Jagna Triathlon and Extreme Mountainbike Challenge recently in Jagna, Bohol.
Cianyl Gonzales emerged the fastest among female participants in the standard triathlon distance and placed fifth overall with the time of three hours, four minutes and 4.40 seconds.
Bohol's Emmanuel Commendador, on the other hand, stunned Arland Macasieb for the top spot overall with a convincing time of 2:19:00.60. Macaseib clocked in only 2:23:55.85.
Cebu-based Sherwin Managil took the third place honors with a 2:37:24.76 clocking.
In the sprint distance, the combined results saw Paul Jumamil coming out the fastest with the time of 1:09:40. Dwight Galolo settled for second placed in 1:17:18 followed by Kim Zian Bartolata with a 1:19:25 clocking.
Rounding up the top 10 cast in the sprint race were Wayne Pagulon (1:26:55), Handell Galolo (1:27:07), Emil Motus (1:33:50), Philip Caesarius Rubi (1:39:18), Glenn Loayon (1:50:36), Maurice Anthony Balintag (1:51:07) and Romeul Philip Balintag (1:55:20). Emil is the son of The Freeman sports columnist Bobby Motus.
In the mountainbike action, Cebuano Ray Carbonera and Warren Vinan posted a 1-3 finish in the open elite category. It was Joseph Rabida of Paseo de Loon who occupied the second spot.
The fourth to eighth placers were Nicho Lumay, Richie Enad, Gino Basigro, Roger Torreon and Roger Niere.
Another Cebuano entry Ronie Adlawan ruled the 50-above class followed by trailed by Antonio Beronio and Pablo Anlog. The all-Bohol open saw Victor Biongcog, Conrado Piezas Jr. and Glenn Menguito occupying the top three sports. — (FREEMAN)
