Five Cebu jins start bid in ASEAN tourney today

CEBU, Philippines - Some of the country's best and fast-rising taekwondo stars will kick off their campaign in the ASEAN Taekwondo Championships today in Nay Pyl Taw, Myanmar.

Five Cebuano jins are included in the Smart-Philippine delegation. They are Miguel Calamba, Moses Bullicer, Rinna Babanto, Maegan Bugarin and Nichole Maurin. They will all compete under the junior poomsae event or forms.

Babanto will strut his wares in the individual category, while Maurin will team up with Rico Mella of the National Capital Region (NCR) in the pairs competition.

Calamba and Bullicer will be fielded in the men's team event as well as Bugarin in the distaff side.

Shaneen Ched Sia, a former student of Cebu Doctors' University (CDU) and one-time Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) awardee, will also show her stuff in poomsae. (FREEMAN)
