Class '95 takes solo lead in CECABA hoop

CEBU, Philippines - New Millennium Hardware '95 banked on the deadly triumvirate of Donald Anthong Ting, Dean Dy Teves and Raymond Gollon to trounce the listless PTT 2005, 59-52, and take the solo lead in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Ting collected 21 points, five steals and three assists, Dy Teves banged in 15 points, four rebounds, four blocks and two assists, while Gollon netted 13 points on top of eight rebounds, two assists and two steals as Class '95 eased through its fifth straight win in as many starts.

Class '95 trailed by a matchstick early on, 18-19, but responded with an 18-7 blast to grab the lead at halftime, 36-35, for good.

Kent Benedict Uy had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Kristoffer Dennis Lee added 13 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals but they went home on a pensive mood as Class 2005 crashed to its third consecutive loss.

Earlier, Stanley Gaw had a solid double-double show of 15 points and 16 rebounds as Las Vegas KTV-M16 Disco '94 stormed to a close 44-39 victory over Argentina Corned Beef  '84/87/90.

Former CDC Stallion (now CDC) Wellington Yu tossed in 13 markers on top of eight rebounds, two assists and two steals for Class '94, which bettered its win-loss record to 4-1 while dealing Class '84/87/90 its third defeat in a row.

Class '94 was never threatened after closing the first half with a five-point edge, 27-22.

Paul Michael Cabellon led Class '84/87/90 with 18 poitns, eight rebounds and three steals followed by Sammy Sia with 10 points and five rebounds. (FREEMAN)
