CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City United (QCU) of Cebu hammered Baybay, Leyte FC, 7-1, at the start of the Visayas eliminations of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF)-Smart Club Championships the other day in Negros Occidental.
Regardless of the outcome of its match against host Ceres FC tomorrow, the QCU booters of coach Mario Ceniza are already assured of a slot into the round of 16 of the nationwide tournament.
This after Ceres FC came through with a 10-0 whitewash of the Leyteños yesterday.
Even though they already advanced into the knockout stage that will begin on January 16 next year, the Cebu Football Association (CFA)-backed QCU still wants to get past Ceres FC to gain top seeding at the end of the Visayas qualifying.
However, QCU team manager Stanley Villacin said winning against Ceres won't be an easy task as the Negrenses are reinforced by six Korean players and two members of the national under-23 squad.
“We will give it all tomorrow for a win, for our Cebuano pride. They (Ceres) are good, but we can surely match up with them,” said Villacin. (FREEMAN)
