CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government has launched a scholarship program that will provide financial assistance to qualified Oponganon students pursuing higher education at state universities and colleges.
The Lapu-Lapu City Scholarship Program for Higher Education (LLC-SPHE) is being implemented through the city's Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) under the amended Ordinance No. 17-062-2026.
The ordinance renamed the former Lapu-Lapu City Educational Assistance for Higher Education Program and sets the framework for the scholarship's implementation.
According to the city government, the scholarship program is administered by a committee chaired by Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan, with Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Orlan Joseph Carungay serving as vice chairperson and Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, chairperson of the City Council committee on education, as a member.
The city said 18 applicants have already undergone interviews as part of the initial screening process.
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a merit- and need-based evaluation.
The criteria include academic standing, face-to-face interview, socio-economic status, and priority degree programs.
Applicants are required to submit an accomplished application form, school records, a certificate of enrollment, a certified copy of their course prospectus, and proof that their parents' or legal guardians' annual gross income does not exceed P250,000.
Alternative documents, such as a Bureau of Internal Revenue tax exemption certificate or an affidavit of no or low income, may also be submitted in lieu of an income tax return.
The scholarship is open to qualified Oponganon students enrolled in state universities and colleges, subject to the requirements and guidelines set by the LYDO. (CEBU NEWS)
