PCG extends fluvial registration deadline

CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has extended the registration deadline for vessels who wish to participate in the much-anticipated fluvial procession of Fiesta Señor 2025 to January 10.

So far, a total of 48 vessels have been officially registered, comprising various motor bancas and other maritime crafts.

PCG-7 spokesperson Abel Jan Lomboy is urging all interested parties to complete their registration as early as possible to avoid any last-minute issues.

Of the 48 registered vessels, 36 are motor bancas, including medium-sized boats commonly used for local transport. Many of these are equipped with outriggers for enhanced stability.

In addition, there are three passenger vessels; four tugboats; four speedboats; and one cargo vessel registered for the procession.

Lomboy further said that the registered motor bancas are divided into two distinct divisions based on their size and capabilities. Division 1 is for the larger motor bancas, also known as big vessels without outriggers, which have a gross tonnage (GT) ranging from 35.1 GT to 300 GT.

These vessels are typically larger seacrafts that can carry significant passenger loads. Vessels in division 1 are required to have a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate (PSSC), Minimum Safe Manning Certificate, and a Boat Captain Certificate. Two photo copies should be submitted for verification.

Meanwhile, division 2 includes the medium-sized motor bancas equipped with outriggers, which typically have a gross tonnage ranging from 3.1 GT to 35 GT.

These vessels are more commonly used for local transport and are often seen accommodating passengers or goods in coastal areas.

Similar to division 1 vessels, division 2 motor bancas are required to submit a Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) or Passenger Ship Safety Certificate, along with a Minimum Safe Manning Certificate and a Boat Captain Certificate.

According to Lomboy, the registration is essential to ensure the safety, seaworthiness, and proper operation of all vessels involved in the procession.

“Facilitate smooth coordination and deployment during the fluvial procession and regulate participation – allow authorities to monitor and manage the participating vessels effectively,” said Lomboy.

The fluvial procession will be on January 18, 2025 and will start at 4 a.m., to be followed by the Solemn Foot Procession of the Venerable Image of Sr. Sto. Niño at 1 p.m. — (FREEMAN)
