CEBU, Philippines — Mayor Raymond Garcia has assured a continued support for the Muslim community from the city government as the local chief executive stressed their valuable contributions in the city’s economy.

Garcia attended the Moltaqa Islamic Values and Cultural Awareness Conference at the City Hall’s Community Hall as a way of showing his support for the Muslim community.  The said conference, according to the City’s PIO, was aimed at promoting greater understanding and appreciation of Islamic values and cultural heritage, fostering unity and inclusivity within Cebu City.

It also served as a platform for dialogue and cultural exchange, reinforcing the city’s dedication to diversity and mutual respect.

“As your mayor, I want to assure you that this administration is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of your background, can grow and can thrive,” Garcia said.

“We will continue to support initiatives that promote cultural awareness and understanding among all communities in our city,” Garcia added.

Garcia also took the opportunity to thank the Muslim community for their valuable contribution to the community.

“The Muslim community plays a vital and pivotal role in our city’s economy and development. While many of you excel as merchants providing essential goods and services, it is also very much essential to highlight that your talents extend beyond commerce,” Garcia said.

He noted that many of them are also doctors, nurses, teachers and other professions under various government and private agencies.

“Your dedication in these fields enhances the quality of life for all Cebuanos,” he added.

The mayor recognized the Office of the Muslim Affairs and Indigenous Cultural Communities (OMAICC) in Cebu City, led by Ashlima Amer, for its tireless efforts in bringing in the city government’s services to the Muslim community.

“I’m noticing what you have done for our Muslim community. By bridging gaps of misunderstanding and fostering relationship, build on trust and respect. Your office is playing a vital role in creating a more inclusive, a more harmonious environment for everybody in the city of Cebu,” Garcia said.

After the said conference, the City government thru the OMAICC Cebu City will have a series of other activities like the Muslim Family Day, Muslim Action Games and Cultural Night of Celebration. — (FREEMAN)
