CEBU, Philippines — The dominant political party in Cebu Province, One Cebu, has secured another allegiance, this time from the officials of Compostela in northern Cebu.
Mayor Felijur Quiño and Vice Mayor Froilan Quiño, along with 280 officials from the Sangguniang Kabataan, barangay captains, and town councilors, have formally pledged their support to One Cebu.
The party, led by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, welcomed the town officials during an oath-taking ceremony held on July 15 at the D.M. Reynes Gymnasium.
The event was graced by Fifth District Representative Duke Frasco and Provincial Board Members Red Duterte and Mike Villamor.
In her speech, Governor Garcia emphasized the unity of the province: “We are a united province, and in this unity, the entire country has taken notice. There is no other province as strong because we are united; no other province in the entire country can say that indeed we are one, undivided, and indivisible. Only One Cebu.”
Compostela becomes the latest local government unit (LGU) whose officials have aligned themselves with Garcia’s political party. In November 2022, all incumbent municipal and barangay officials from the four towns in the Camotes Group of Islands also joined the ranks of the Garcia-led One Cebu Party.
A total of 89 officials, including the mayors and vice mayors, from the towns of Poro, San Francisco, Tudela, and Pilar have added to the formidable force of One Cebu. — (FREEMAN)
