CEBU, Philippines — Region XI (Davao Region) emerged as the overall champion in the 2024 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) held in Carcar City, Cebu, ending the nine-year winning streak of Region VI-A (CALABARZON), yesterday.
The National Capital Region (NCR) and CALABARZON placed second and third, respectively, followed by Central Luzon in fourth, and Cagayan Valley in fifth.
“Noong nakaraang NSPC first runner up po kami. It’s a challenge for us today na makuha ang aming championship no,” said Mary Jane Mejorada, one of the Regional Journalism Supervisors of Davao Region.
She said this in an interview on Explained PH’s Facebook page, a youth-driven journalism organization.
“With the challenge of our Regional Director, Allan Farnazo, talagang lahat ng resources ginamit namin sa journalism in all the intensive training after the RSPC. We had an in-house training,” Mejorada said.
She said that what they had in mind was not to defeat CALABARZON but just to best prepare for the NSPC 2024 by investing in training and preparations.
“(P)ressured kami since first runner up kami. The CALABARZON is our idol, hindi po namin siya gi-defeat, di ‘yun ang purpose namin. Our purpose is to be ready para makuha namin ang championship,” Mejorada said.
She even said that their region underwent intensive training starting at the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) and to the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC).
She said that after the RSPC, campus journalists went through three rounds of competition to select the best student writers of Region 11 to compete for this year’s NSPC.
Mejorada said that this has made them get the over-all champion title.
“Kaya yun nakita namin ngayon ang bunga nag paghihirap namin,” she said.
Aside from intensive training, Mejorada also cited the collaborative effort of their Division Education Program supervisor focal persons in Journalism, DepEd Davao Region, and Curriculum Learning and Management Division.
“Para ito sa aming rehiyon… lahat lahat...To God be the glory, Amen," she said. (CEBU NEWS)
