CEBU, Philippines — The illegal settlers of Barangay Suba Block 2 under the Slum Improvement Resettlement (SIR) will need to be relocated after finding out that they were not the original beneficiaries of the city-owned lot.
Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) Assistant Executive Director for Operations Teofilo Jun Rosaroso said they have informed the residents about the plan in a consultative meeting after finding out about the mismanagement of the program.
“Nagpahigayon mi ug meeting sa mga occupants sa SIR kay para mahapsay na sila kay daghan jud diha dili na maoy awardee sa lote ug daghang nakasulod nga wala na mag agi sa among office sa City Hall. And uban delinquent sa monthly installment ang uban wala jud nakabayad since 1986 pa,” said Rosaroso.
He added there were even other residents who sold their allotted lot, which is considered illegal because the area is a government-owned lot.
To address this, an election of officers was conducted to manage the area and assist the SIR officers as well as to put a stop on illegal occupants.
The consultative meeting was also done to determine the numbers of residents whose ownership were already sealed with titles.
“Sa wala pa ug sa mga wala jud makapa-rehistro sa among office, which we have to address aron matabangan sila sa ilang problema kabahin sa ilang occupied lots. Kay luoy sad until now wala pa makatitulo bisag ang uban fully paid na. Ang uban naundang tungod sa kalibog sa pag-manage sa maong program sa city,” he added.
Rosasoro also said they will prioritize those who are qualified as beneficiaries while those considered illegal settlers will be subjected to relocation.
According to him, the city has existing housing sites that can be used as the relocation area.
He, however, said that it would still be up to the management if their relocations will be accepted.
“May future MRB (medium rise buildings) under sa pabahay program ni President Bongbong, pwede sila didto. Pero, we know it will take time kay tukoron pa man. Mao nga di namo sila i-relocate didto unless ready na ang facility,” said Rosaroso. (CEBU NEWS)
