In Cebu City: Independence Day celebration peaceful

CEBU, Philippines — The activities of the 125th Philippine Independence Day in Cebu City were generally peaceful, said the city’s police chief, Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog.

Approximately 300 policemen were deployed by the Cebu City Police Office to secure the activities held at the Fuente Osmeña Circle and Plaza Independencia.

The police did not receive any information about untoward incidents.

The Crowd Dispersal Management has also been on standby at the CCPO preparing for the cause-oriented groups holding their own activities.

It was learned that no less than 13 individuals held a movement at the Freedom Park in Barangay Ermita where they were given the opportunity to express their grievances against the government.

"Naa tay na-observe nato ganina mga left-leaning organization more or less mga 13 individuals wala ni siya makaapekto sa celebration sa Independence Day," said Col. Dalogdog. — (FREEMAN)
