Fire razes 50 houses in Quiot, Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — A fire razed a residential area on Thursday morning in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.

The fire was declared at first alarm at 11:08 a.m. and was put under control after an hour at 12:14 p.m. It was completely put out at 12:21 noon.

At least 45 houses were totally burned while five others were partially burned. The houses were mostly made of light materials.

Based on the initial report of the Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO), the fire started at a house owned by a certain Raynelia Ole.

The fire affected an area of 1,250 square meters and left an estimated damage of P1,875,000 while no fatalities and injured individuals were recorded.

The responding teams included eight engines, two water tenders, an ambulance and fire volunteer brigades.

As of this writing, investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Portia Basmayor of the City Department of Social Welfare and Services (CDSWS) immediately visited the scene of the fire to immediately assist the victims.

As of 3:00 p.m., the total number of affected houses was put at 66; affected families are 91; and affected individuals are 356. This was confirmed by the CDSWS through Facebook page posting.
