Strictly no trikes on Minglanilla highway next week

This is in compliance with the Memorandum Circular No. 2020-036 issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

CEBU, Philippines —  The Minglanilla Traffic Commission is set to strictly prohibit tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs from operating along the national highways starting Monday.

This is in compliance with the Memorandum Circular No. 2020-036 issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

An information drive was directed by Traffic Education Officer Langlang Waskin earlier yesterday to different terminals in Minglanilla.

This is to alert tricycle drivers about the enforcement of the DILG order and how it will positively affect the traffic in the municipality.

In an interview with The Freeman, Waskin explained that they were not able to completely carry through the memorandum released since last year considering that the tricycle drivers need money to make a living in the middle of the pandemic.

“Kita man gud diri sa Minglanilla man gud tungod sa pandemic, ato lang sila gihatagan ug konsiderasyon. Pero karon panahona…ato hinay-hinayan og implementar. Sa tinuod lang gyud ang kaning mga tricycle ang usa sa makapa traffic sa kalsada,” Waskin said.

A meeting will be held today at the MITCOM office together with the presidents of the different tricycle organizations to hear their sentiments in order for MITCOM to provide proper assistance without violating the stipulations of the DILG order. They also want to ensure that accurate information will be circulated.

“Dili ni sa lungsod nga direktiba sa national ni mao nga og dili namo i-implement kami pud ma-question,” Waskin clarified.

He said that this is not only for them but for everyone’s benefit, hoping that the drivers will understand the importance of the directive.

Drivers are also encouraged to always bring with them their complete documents such as franchise, driver’s license and updated registration. — Ericailah Gerasmio, CNU Intern, GMR (FREEMAN)
