CEBU, Philippines — The Sogod municipal treasurer's office was once again robbed and lost at least P35,000 last Tuesday afternoon.
The money was intended for the allowance of town scholars.
In 2014, Sogod town also lost P55,961.22 in cash kept in the treasurer’s office to robbers.
Sogod Police Station chief Warlito Tunacao said they have identified a person of interest in the robbery.
He said the office is equipped with a closed-circuit television camera, hoping the recorded footage would help them solve the crime.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation,” he said, adding that the office’s door and the safe box where the money was kept are not broken.
He said the police are waiting for Mayor Richard Streegan’s instructions whether or not to pursue the filing of a case or to conduct a forensic examination.
To prevent such an incident from happening again, Tunacao said the municipal government is planning to procure a safety vault. — KQD (FREEMAN)
