CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Fifth District Representative Duke Frasco recently led the distribution of over P2.3 million worth of scholarships to recipients in the four municipalities in Camotes Island.
A total of 561 students from the municipalities of San Francisco, Poro, Pilar, and Tudela received scholarships that will aid them in enrollment and school needs.
The distribution of scholarships was delayed since March due to the imposition of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Cebu Province and limited movement.
“But just as we have shifted to MGCQ, we are soldiering on and finding ways to make good on our promise to help the education of our youth. Recovering from the ravages of COVID-19 will be difficult. What’s important is that we move forward with caution, and as we do, help our youth heal and give them the confidence to still accomplish their dreams,” said Frasco in his Facebook post.
The scholarship program is in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Frasco is a member of the House Committees on Basic Education and Higher Education.
Education has always been Frasco’s number one priority when he was the mayor of Liloan for nine years. He started the scholarship program in Liloan in 2008 and his wife, Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco, has continued the scholarship program.
Frasco had said that expanding the program to cover the rest of the Fifth District would mean that men and women, and their families, now have hope for a better life through the power of education.
Earlier, Frasco also turned over over P1.5 million worth of financial assistance to 390 habal habal drivers from said town wherein each beneficiary received P4,040.00. GAN (FREEMAN)
