CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has urged all bar operators and business establishments serving liquors to strictly implement the prohibition for minors from entering their establishments.

The mayor issued the call after a video showing five young male students molesting a 16-year-old girl inside a car has gone viral. Labella said he already directed the Cebu City Police Office to go after the people behind the incident.

“This is very saddening that this happened. We are very relentless in the fight against illegal drugs kay mao ni ang akong tan-aw nga hinungdan. They are high,” he said, adding that he believes that the young boys were under the influence of illegal drugs because of their behavior.

Labella also asked the schools and universities in the city to monitor their students. The mayor said the authorities should go after the sources of the illegal drugs.

The mayor said the city government will go after bar owners who will be found serving liquor to the minors.

“There is a higher demand when it comes to liquor, 21 dili lang 18 years old. Age of the majority emancipation under the Civil Code is 18 but for purposes of our imposition on the prohibition aning liquor, it’s 21. It’s much higher than 18 which is provided under the Civil Code,” the mayor explained. — FPL (FREEMAN)
