CEBU, Philippines — By Monday, about 1,000 public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers can already claim their respective dashboard cameras from the Cebu City government.
The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) will start distributing the free dashboard cameras to the qualified drivers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The CCTO has established three areas for the giving of cameras so that the drivers will not be jam-packed in one location.
These areas are Lot 27 in the North Reclamation Area (NRA) across a boutique, F. Vestil Street near the bridge and CCTO building in F. Ramos Street.
CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano told The FREEMAN that they decided to create three distribution sites for them so as not to cause public disturbance.
He said the identified areas are not prone to traffic congestion. In fact, these are areas that are bit far from the main thorough fares.
With this, CCTO assured the public that it will not hamper the traffic flow.
“Gibahin nato og katulo kay ang PUJ drivers man gud daghan sila, naa’y taga Inayawan, naa’y taga Talamban, naa’y Guadalupe, then Banawa. Might as well, atoang gibahin ang areas para sila dili sad maglibog,” Ouano said.
Upon claiming the dashboard camera, the drivers shall bring photocopies of their driver's license, official receipt, franchise and confirmation.
Ouano is reminding the drivers not to forget these requirements for a smooth and fast distribution on Monday.
“Dapat ihan-ay ang requirements para inig abot dili sad sila mahasol…Para inig abot sa driver diretso-diretso na,” he said.
The qualified drivers have secured travel line certificate in CCTO. Travel line means the daily route of the drivers in transporting passengers.
Ouano said for those who can’t claim it on the first day of distribution are allowed to get it until June 28, as advised from outgoing mayor Tomas Osmeña.
In 2018, the outgoing administration appropriated P5 million for the procurement of 1,000 dashboard cameras for the PUJ drivers.
The purpose of installing security cameras to PUJ is to deter criminality and to improve peace and order situation. — GAN (FREEMAN)
