Tanods from 9 villages get stipend

CEBU, Philippines — Barangay tanods from nine Cebu City villages received yesterday their honoraria for the months of November and December in 2018 at the City Treasurer's Office.

The barangays include Babag, Mabini, Poblacion Pardo, Bonbon, Buot, Kamputhaw, Luz, Pahina Central, and Toong.

Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) head Garry Lao said the delayed distribution of honoraria was attributed to the barangays’ late submission of requirements.

Richard Codizar, a tanod from an upland village, was not disappointed that he received his honorarium late, but said the distribution system should be improved.

To avoid delays, he said he already submitted all the requirements needed for the next distribution.

Each tanod in Cebu City is receiving P4,000 monthly allowance.

At present, COSAP is processing the payrolls of at least 36 barangays for the month of January after complying with all the requirements.

The tanods are required to submit their daily time record (DTR), accomplishment reports, and a letter authorizing them to serve, among others.

The “authority to serve” signed by the mayor is only given to tanods who were tested negative for illegal drug use.

If the tanods fail to submit the necessary documents every first week of the month, the distribution and rechecking will be prolonged.

After its submission, the next three days will be intended for rechecking of the documents, such as obligation request, payroll, authority to serve, daily time record, accomplishment report, and barangay certificate. — Isabella G. Obor, USJ-R Intern KBQ (FREEMAN)
