CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is now accepting applicants for scholarship program in the coming school year.
Councilor Joy Augustus Young, deputy mayor for education, said the city government will continue the scholarship program this year after it was stopped for two years due to the implementation of the K to 12 curriculum.
Young also explained that the delay in the qualifying examinations was due to the lack of Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (Philgeps) accreditation of the service provider.
“We should have announced this earlier. Nadugay ni kay naa man tay bag-ong balaod sa bidding na dapat naay Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) unya wala man ang among previous supplier ana so di gyud mo-qualify,” Young said.
Young assured that they now have a new supplier that have Philgeps accreditation. The qualifying examinations are scheduled from April 23 to May 7. Applicants must bring their requirements.
Qualified applicants should be a graduate from any public secondary school in Cebu City; a graduate from a public secondary school near Cebu City boundary due to inaccessibility of a Cebu City Secondary School; a graduate from a private secondary school due to a scholarship grant but studied and graduated from any public elementary school within Cebu City; a graduate from Alternative Learning system in Cebu City; a passer of Phil Educational Placement Test (PEPT); and their parents or guardians must be residents and registered voters of Cebu City.
Applicants who graduated from public high school in Cebu City are required to bring the following: Comelec’s voter’s certification of their parents, barangay certification, proof of residency (bills or any government issued ID which reflects the address) of parent/s, and a copy of authenticated birth certificate of the applicant.
Additional requirements for those who graduated from private high school in Cebu City through scholarships are a copy of elementary school and junior high school diploma or certification of graduation from a Cebu City public elementary school and certificate of scholarship from the sponsor or copy of EVS/ESC voucher.
Each city scholar is given P10,000 financial assistance per semester, P1,000 for school supplies every semester, and another P1,000 transportation allowance.
Upon graduation, all scholars who will graduate cum laude will get P10,000; magna cum laude (P15,000); and P20,000 for summa cum laude.
