CEBU, Philippines — Two died after a car swerved to the opposite lane and hit two motorcycles and one multicab along the South Coastal Road yesterday morning.
The fatalities were identified as John Narry Lu, 29, of Dumlog, Talisay and Balbinito Dela Cruz Jr., 58, a resident of City of Naga. The two were driving their respective motorcycles.
PO1 Ruel Detoya of Talisay City Traffic Police said the car, a Toyota Avanza, is driven by Helen Mahinay, 39.
She was travelling from Cebu City and while crossing the viaduct, she noticed that the brake of her car malfunctioned.
She said there were several vehicles ahead of her so she decided to swerve to the opposite lane where there were lesser vehicles.
Unfortunately, Mahinay hit Dela Cruz who was driving his motorcycle.
Upon impact, Dela Cruz hit a multicab that was travelling near him driven by Leopoldo Satentes Jr., 43.
Mahinay also hit the motorcycle that Lu was driving.
Both motorcycle drivers were brought to a hospital but did not make it alive.
Both Satentes and Mahinay did not sustain any injuries.
"Wala ra naunsa ang driver sa Avanza ug sa multicab kay ni-support ang airbag sa sakyanan pero ang sakyanan kay guba kayo pati ang makina," said Detoya. (The driver was safe because of the airbag but her car was severely damaged.)
Mahinay is now temporarily detained in Talisay City lock up cell while the police are still waiting for the families of the victims to file a case against her. (FREEMAN)
