CEBU, Philippines — The 96 families affected by fire in Sitio Caduldulan, Lawaan 3 in Talisay City will each receive financial assistance worth P10,000 today, December 28.
Mayor Eduardo Gullas said owners of houses that were destroyed will get P10,000 each, while renters and sharers of destroyed structures will be given P5,000.
According to City Social Welfare and Development Office Head Felipa Solana, the fire displaced 96 families or 384 individuals. At least 80 of the affected families are homeowners while the rest are sharers and renters.
Of the 96 damaged houses, 87 of them were totally burned.
The fire victims initially received relief goods, including mats, blankets and clothing, from the city government yesterday.
Cebu First District Representative Gerald Anthony Samsam Gullas also distributed relief goods to the fire victims last Tuesday.
Lawaan 3 Barangay Captain Delia Ybañez thanked the officials for extending assistance to the victims.
On the other hand, City Fire Marshall Chief Inspector Joel Abarquez said they have yet to determine if unplugged appliance really caused the fire that razed an estimated 100 houses before Christmas day.
Based on initial investigation, the fire started at the house of Ruby dela Concepcion.
Concepcion reportedly admitted to the fire officers that she left her tablet unplugged.
Damage was pegged at P400,000.
Only one was recorded to sustain injuries – Ronel Tribajo, 37 – who was hurt in his right foot. (FREEMAN)
