CEBU, Philippines — Authorities found no contrabands in the latest Greyhound operations at the female dormitory of the Lapu-Lapu City Jail early Saturday morning.
Instead, they only saw ball pens, razors, compact discs (CDs), sealant products, utensils such as forks and spoons, sharp objects and disposable lighters, which the raiding team confiscated.
Senior Jail Officer 4 Marila Mabalod, the jail warden of the female dormitory, said they are happy of the result of the latest jail inspection, since no illegal drugs were found.
Mabalod said the city jail coordinated with the personnel from the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-7 for the raid.
During the operation, the 256 female inmates were asked to move out from their cells and to stay at the jail grounds within their dormitory to give way for the inspection.
"No cellphones were found in the dormitory," Mabalod said, adding that they are strict in implementing security and safety measures for the inmates and jail personnel.
As to the medicines found in the area, Mabalod said these are over-the-counter medicines sent by their visiting relatives and were kept by the inmates.
Mabalod, however, understands that these medicines are needed by the inmates but the city jail has been regulating as to the quantity of medicine the visitors can bring in for their sick family member and friends.
“Di namo sila padal-on og ingon ana kadaghan (nga over-the counter medicines)," she said.
If the inmates are found sick and needs medical attention, Mabalod explained that they will be given a prescription by a doctor during a medical check-up inside the facility through a court order. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
