One of two city jail escapees rearrested

CEBU, Philippines - One of the two inmates who bolted out of Carcar City Jail on November 24 was recaptured in a joint manhunt operation by the police and personnel of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Wednesday dawn in Barangay Luyo, Barili town.

Authorities rearrested Junard Ramos who was caught sleeping at a shanty in Barangay Luyo, some 10 kilometers from the suspect’s house in Barangay Gunting.

Police Officer 2 Jotemar Tejano of Barili Police Station said following the inmates’ escape, a team from the BJMP coordinated with Barili Police Station in case Ramos would come home.

Tejano said after they were notified of the prison break, intelligent operatives of the station conducted surveillance operation and found out that Ramos was seen in the town’s Poblacion last week.

The suspect was then again spotted near his residence in Barangay Gunting and later in Barangay Luyo.

“Nakit-an siya atong adlawa ‘nya nakabantay sa Poblacion, unya na-spot-an sa Gunting, pag-alarma, nakasibat. Wala g’yud molunga sa Barili Police Station,” said Tejano.

With the sightings, Tejano said they conducted non-stop operation to locate the suspect until they found him at a shanty in Barangay Luyo.

“Naa may payag sa sitio Dita, layo ra sa Gunting, didto siya magkatulganan. Gi-time-ing nga nipahuway na siya, wala na siya makabantay,” he said.

The operatives then swooped down on the shanty and arrested Ramos who was surprised.

He was then brought to the police station to undergo the normal booking process and was taken by BJMP personnel back to Carcar City Jail.

Ramos and fellow inmate Rodelio Apura escaped from prison on Nov. 24 by distracting the jail guards by splashing at them water mixed with chili. They then jumped from the second floor of the jail building and escaped.

Initially, there were three of them who tried to escape but the third inmate was recaptured before getting past the jail premises.

The joint team, this time, is trying to hunt down Apura. (FREEMAN)
