Cop held for ‘helping’2 Chinese suspects

CEBU, Philippines - A police officer has been placed under camp restriction after allegedly helping escape the suspects in the shooting of two Chinese consular officials and the Chinese consul-general last week.

Police Officer 1 Carl Anthony Lee of Fuente Police Station has been placed under camp restriction at Camp Sotero Cabahug, Cebu City Police Office.

Lee allegedly helped the two suspects, Consul Li Quing Liang and his wife Guo Jing, flee the crime scene after shooting Deputy Consul General Sun Shan and finance officer Hui Li, who both died, and Consul General Song Rong Hua who was injured.

The suspects were taken into custody by the Cebu City police but were transported to China a few days later where their case will be heard.

Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela Jr., officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Police Office, said that Lee has been placed under camp restriction while the case in ongoing.

Batiancela said that while the Investigation and Detection Management Branch of CCPO is investigating, Lee will not be allowed to go outside of Camp Sotero Cabahug without permission.

This is to pave way for the investigators to have immediate access to Lee in case they would need him for his explanation.

“So tan-awn sa na sa imbestigador kung unsa ang iyang lapses. Ang IDMB maoy gikuan nato (The investigators will look into PO1 Lee’s possible lapses and IDMB has been tasked do it),” Batiancela said.

“Mao na actually atong gi-determine, in fact naa siya’y kaugalingong lawyer iya man sad na’ng katungod. Ipadayon pa lang gihapon na’ng pre-charge evaluation,” he added.
