CEBU, Philippines – A 49-year-old man is facing a non-bailable offense before the Regional Trial Court for allegedly killing an electrician in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.
Lindon Alicante was indicted by Cebu City Prosecutor Ruso Zaragoza after finding probable cause against him for murder. Alicante allegedly killed Nicolas Dennis Monteron around 2 p.m. on September 22, 2015.
Dennick, the 14-year-old son of the victim, said he accompanied his father in a work-related appointment at the interior portion of Barangay Kamagayan.
The minor said Alicante suddenly approached his father and engaged into a heated argument. His father reportedly told Dennick to stay away from him and Alicante so he could not hear their argument.
Minutes later, Monteron reportedly left Alicante since he did not want trouble, Dennick said.
Monteron and Dennick then proceeded to the area where the former was hired to work. However, Alicante ran after the victim and struck his head with a blunt object.
The barangay public safety officers later arrived at the crime scene and saw Monteron lying on the pavement. Alicante tried to run away but was chased by the responding officers resulting in his arrest.
The blunt instrument he allegedly used to kill Monteron was also seized from his possession. Alicante was then turned over to the Parian Police Station for temporary detention.
In an inquest proceeding before Zaragoza, Alicante chose not to answer the allegations against him. He was later transferred to Cebu City Jail while his case will be heard in court. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
