Teacher shot dead in Argao

CEBU, Philippines- A public school teacher who was driving his motorcycle on his way home was killed after he was shot by unidentified men past 5 p.m. on Sunday in Barangay Panadtaran, Argao town.

Allan Campaner Albert, 33, a teacher at Usmad Elementary School, died instantly from gunshot wounds to his head and back.

PO3 Benjamin Geyrozaga, desk officer of Argao Police Station, said that  Albert came from Argao proper and was headed home in Barangay Usmad.

Geyrozaga said Albert did not notice that two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle were tailing him.

Geyrozaga said that while the victim was driving along the road in Barangay Panadtaran, which is adjacent to Barangay Usmad, the killers tried to overtake him.

The back rider then pulled a hand gun and opened fire, hitting the victim in the head and body.

The victim fell from his motorcycle while the killers sped away to an unknown location.

Panadtaran barangay officials informed the police station of the incident but when police arrived, Albert was already dead.

Police recovered a deformed slug and two empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene. They are now looking for possible witnesses who might have witnessed the incident.

Geyrozaga said they are eyeing personal grudge as the motive behind the killing.

Shot  in  Balamban

Meanwhile, a motorcycle driver who hit two pedestrians in Barangay Buanoy Balamban town is in critical condition after he was shot by the family of the pedestrians past 6 p.m. on Sunday night.  

Simon Niñal, of Sagay, Toledo City, was referred to a hospital in Cebu City after he was brought to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban town due to the severe back and injuries.

Jerick Sanchez, 46, and his son, Marvin, 20, were arrested by the police in a hot pursuit operation after the incident.

PO1 Monchito Clarin, desk officer of Balamban Police Station said that Niñal was driving a motorcycle towards Toledo City when he suddenly hit Jerick Sanchez who crossed the national road while carrying his one-year-old grandchild.

After learning that his father and son were hit by Niñal, Marvin Sanchez and his live-in-partner came to the scene to check the condition of their son. But, out of anger, Marvin immediately shot Niñal in the neck and back.

After shooting the driver, Marvin and Jerick fled away but were arrested in a hot pursuit operation.  (FREEMAN)
