CEBU, Philippines- The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted a 40-year-old man for allegedly maltreating his 13-year-old daughter.
Prosecutor Maria Theresa Calibugan-Casiño held the Barangay Luz resident for trial after finding probable cause for violation of Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as the anti-child abuse law.
The accused, who works as a mason, allegedly maltreated his daughter on the evening of August 23 inside their house.
The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the parties involved to protect the identity of the minor-aged victim.
On that evening, the minor said, her father confronted her about going to a disco the previous day.
She said that her father was furious that he allegedly hit her on her right leg using an angle bar. He then grabbed a thick piece of wood and hit her on her hands, arms, and left side of her body.
Her father also reportedly got a bolo and threatened her that she would die that time. He then grabbed her outside and allegedly drowned her inside a barrel of water.
The minor said that when she sat after what happened, her father grabbed her to stand up, slapped her face several times, and hit her head on the aquarium.
She further alleged that when she tried to run outside towards her mother, her father took a dustpan and attempted to hit them. While her parents struggled for the dust pan, the girl managed to run away and went to her aunt’s store.
However, her father still followed her and grabbed her hair.
The minor said she cried and felt so much pain on her head and entire body. She said she wants her father to be imprisoned after what he did to her.
The suspect, who was arrested by Mabolo Police Station personnel, chose not to avail of his right to preliminary investigation during the inquest proceedings.
Hence, his case was elevated to the Regional Trial Court. Casiño recommended P80,000 bail against him. (FREEMAN)
