House OKs bill renaming police school after Robredo

CEBU, Philippines- The House of Representatives has approved the proposed renaming of the Philippine Public Safety College–Regional Training School-7 in Consolacion, Cebu into PPSC-Camp Jessie M. Robredo.

House Bill No. 5953 was approved Monday upon the recommendation of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education chaired by Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo.

Cebu sixth district Rep. Gabriel Luis Quisumbing filed on April 13, 2015 House Bill No. 5661 renaming the PPSC-RTS7 into PPSC-Camp Jessie M. Robredo.

On August 18, 2012, Robredo, who was then the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government, led the groundbreaking ceremony of the PPSC’s RTS in Consolacion.

After the event, Robredo figured in a fatal plane crash.

Robredo is honored for his integrity, leadership and unfailing sense of duty to the Filipino people.

“Recognizing his contribution and influence, it is appropriate for the PPSC-RTS to be renamed as The Philippine Public Safety College-Camp Jessie M. Robredo to serve as an inspiration and demonstrate the highest standards of public service,” said Quisumbing.

The PPSC-RTS7 located in Quisumbing’s district is tasked to conduct training programs for the uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The RTS also provides training course for new recruits and non-commissioned officers.

The school offers courses such as Public Safety Basic Recruitment Course, Public Safety Junior Leadership Course, and Public Safety Senior Leadership Course.  (FREEMAN)
