CEBU, Philippines - Members of the influential Iglesia ni Cristo in Cebu are holding their own protest rally against Justice Secretary Leila De Lima tomorrow at the Plaza Independencia.
Lawyer Rey Gealon, chief of the Cebu City Transportation Office, said they are expecting 10,000 to 20,000 INC members to participate in the protest rally.
Gealon said the CCTO will be deploying traffic personnel along General Maxilom Avenue where the INC members will be marching going to Plaza Independencia.
There was no specific time given by the INC officials but the CCTO will start its deployment as early as 6 a.m.
According to Gealon, they have already prepared contingency measures during a meeting with Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, Councilor Dave Tumulak, city legal officer Jerone Castillo, and CCTO operations chief Joy Tumulak.
Gealon said the INC officials in Cebu asked for permission to hold a protest rally and vigil in support of the ongoing protest action in Manila against De Lima.
Thousands of INC members have been holding protest along EDSA since Friday, causing monstrous traffic in Metro Manila.
The INC leaders protested De Lima’s alleged intervention in their religious affairs by ordering an investigation into the reported abduction of former INC ministers. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
