3 armed men fall in weekend arrests

CEBU, Philippines- Three persons were arrested for possession of firearms in Carcar City and Catmon town over the weekend.

Romeo Quijas, 36, was apprehended by residents of the Sitio Tindahan, Barangay Can-asujan, Carcar City past 11 p.m. on Saturday.

He reportedly brandished a revolver that did not have any bullet.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect was brandishing a gun and was harassing people nearby.

The residents who saw what he was doing grouped themselves and managed to subdue and arrest Quijas after a commotion.

They immediately called the police and turned over the suspect, as well as his caliber .38 revolver, but the police did not recover any bullet inside the chamber.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman was arrested by the police after she dropped three live ammunition of a caliber 9mm pistol while they approached her past 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Jennylyn Puerto, 34, a native of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, was arrested after the police confiscated a pistol and several ammunition from her.

Carcar City police conducted mobile patrol around the city and when they reached Sitio Centro, Barangay Liburon, the police officers noticed a suspicious-looking woman riding in a motorcycle.

When they approached the woman, they noticed that she was a bit tensed and uneasy. When they were just feet away, they saw three bullets that were dropped to the ground.

When the police saw the bullets, they immediately placed her under arrest. She was frisked by Police Officer 1 Charisma Campania.

PO1 Campania recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with five live ammunition placed in a holster and confiscated her motorcycle.

The police brought the suspect to the station for the filing of charges against her.  

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man believed to be drunk was arrested by the police after residents of Sitio Cogon, Barangay Corazon, Catmon reported him to be armed past 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Ruben Pontillas, was arrested by the police after they have confiscated a caliber .38 revolver loaded with five lime ammos from the suspect.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect who was believed to be drunk was carrying a gun in Sitio Cogon.

When the police arrived, the suspect was seen and was asked to surrender his firearm that he was holding.

He was brought to the station and was charged for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.  (FREEMAN)
