CEBU, Philippines - A 51-year-old man was indicted before the court for child abuse case for allegedly touching his 15-year-old granddaughter inappropriately.
Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Liceria Lofranco-Rabillas held the suspect for trial and recommended P200,000 bail for his temporary liberty.
The suspect is being accused of allegedly grabbing her granddaughter and touching her private part in July last year.
According to the minor, she was tending their sari-sari store on July 1, 2014, at around 5 p.m., when her grandfather bought an alcoholic drink.
She was then allegedly asked by her grandfather to boil water, which she did. While waiting for it to boil, the latter called her and to her surprise, he allegedly grabbed her and touched her private part.
She wanted to free herself but her grandfather hugged her tightly and when she got a chance, she pushed him and ran away.
The girl said she confessed everything to her uncle.
Rabillas summoned the suspect to file his counter-affidavit, but the latter did not do so, prompting the prosecutor to resolve the complaint based on the evidence presented.
“After evaluation of the evidence on record, undersigned finds probable cause to indict respondent for the crime charged. The acts of the respondent squarely fall within the acts of child abuse or other conditions prejudicial to the child’s development,” the resolution read. (FREEMAN)
