CEBU, Philippines- An American national landed in the hospital after the police had to shoot him for allegedly brandishing his knife and trying to attack a responding officer past 5 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Poblacion, Santander town.
Dale Lanen Dunbar, 55, from Alabama, USA, and presently residing at Barangay Pasil, Santander, was brought to the Oslob District Hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound in his leg.
SPO2 Manuel Regulacion, investigator, said in an interview that Dunbar reportedly came from his neighbor’s house for a house blessing in Barangay Pasil, Santander, where he got drunk.
After the party, Dunbar rode a motorcycle and went to a store in Barangay Poblacion owned by James Belarmino.
Dunbar allegedly pushed Belarmino, so the latter’s store helpers came to his rescue and a commotion ensued.
Dunbar then took a foldable knife and brandished it in front of the workers, which led them to call the police for assistance.
PO2 Vergil Rosal and PO1 Dante Daniega responded to the alarm and saw Dunbar holding a knife. The cops asked him to calm down and drop the knife but Dunbar would not listen.
Instead he turned his attention to the police officers and challenged them to a fight. Dunbar allegedly then approached Rosal who fired a warning shot but did not stop the American national from trying to attack him.
Sensing his life was in imminent danger, Rosal shot Dunbar in the leg.
The police officers brought Dunbar to the Oslob District Hospital but when he was in the facility, he reportedly started getting rowdy and told doctors that he did not want to be treated.
Dunbar was restrained by the hospital staff and was transferred to Dumaguete City for further medical treatment.
Regulacion said that the father of Dunbar’s live-in-partner wants the American national to be deported back to the US since every time Dunbar was drunk, he would get unruly.
But Regulacion said that the family of Dunbar’s live-in-partner explained that if Dunbar was not drunk, he was a good man.
The American national will be facing a charge for alarm and scandal. (FREEMAN)
