Disaster-related talks in Japan applicable in Cebu – Davide

CEBU, Philippines - After his “productive” trip to Japan, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III said he has learned a lot of things which the province can use in disaster preparedness and reduction.

Davide and Provincial Risk Reduction Management head Baltazar Tribunalo went to Japan last March 12 to attend the 3rd United Nations World talks on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Davide, who presided over yesterday’s Metro Cebu Development and Coordination Council meeting, left ahead of Baltazar, who was still in Japan yesterday for the last day of the conference.

“Daghan ta’g nakat-onan and we hope to apply these (to Cebu),” he said.

Davide said when Tribunalo returns from Japan, he will set a meeting with concerned personalities at the Capitol so the PDRRM chief can share what had been discussed in the conference, and later on impart these to the local government units.

Davide stressed that once the things learned are set for implementation, the community must be involved for the whole process to work.

“Everybody should be involved, not just the government officials. We can’t do it kung way gana ang community,” he said. — (FREEMAN)
